Are you preparing for the GRE? Unsure of how to send your GRE scores to the respective universities you wish to apply to? Here is a brief guide on GRE scores and how to send your GRE scores. Before we delve into how to send your GRE scores, let us look at the GRE score range for each section and what counts as a good GRE score.
GRE Section-Wise Scores
As you might be aware, the GRE consists of three sections: Analytical Writing Assessment, Verbal Reasoning, and Quantitative Reasoning. The scoring scheme for each of these sections are as follows:
GRE Section | Score Range |
Analytical Writing Assessment | 0 – 6 |
Verbal Reasoning | 130 – 170 |
Quantitative Reasoning | 130 – 170 |
The sum of the Verbal Reasoning and Quantitative Reasoning scores make up for the total GRE score. As a result, the highest you can score on the GRE is 340 and the lowest you can score on the GRE is 260. The scores of the Analytical Writing Assessment are calculated separately and do not contribute to the total GRE score. However, it adds significant value to your university application, hence, you are not exempted from performing well in this section. Now, let us take a look at what counts as a good GRE score.
What is a Good GRE Score?
A good GRE score amplifies your chances of getting into the top graduate schools along with a well-rounded profile. But, what counts as a good GRE score? A good GRE score is highly subjective and depends on the program and university you wish to apply to. For example, if you have applied to a university with a GRE cutoff score of 320, then scoring 320 or above will be considered as a good GRE for you. However, based on the performance of previous GRE candidates, the average GRE score is 300 or a little over 300. A good GRE score is anywhere between 310 to 320. Any score above 320 is considered as an excellent GRE score and any score below 260 is considered as a poor score.
If you want to get into the university of your choice, you must be aware of the cutoff scores set by them. Most top universities have high GRE cutoffs, hence, you must do a quick research of the cutoffs set by the universities you wish to apply to before you set your target score. You must be aware of the GRE scores and what is considered a good GRE score. Let us now take a quick look at how you can send your GRE scores to the universities you wish to apply to.
How Can You Send Your GRE Scores?
After you have completed your GRE exam, you will be able to view your GRE unofficial scores. Once you view them, you will be allowed to choose up to four universities or organisations as your score recipients. After you choose your preferred universities as score recipients, the official score reports will be sent to them. These official score reports take about two to three weeks to reach the respective universities. However, if you need to send additional score reports to universities of your choice, you can log onto your ETS GRE account to buy additional score reports.
The additional score report will cost $27 per score recipient. However, it is important to note that once you request an additional score report, you cannot cancel it nor will you be refunded for the same. So, make sure you choose and send your GRE score reports to universities that you have a high chance of getting into. You can expect your score recipients to receive your score reports five days after you have requested additional score reports.
We hope to have given you a brief overview of the GRE section-wise scores, what counts as a good GRE score, and how to send your GRE scores. All you have to do now is prepare for the GRE efficiently to fulfil your dream of pursuing a graduate program abroad. All the best!
