How many marks are required to clear JEE Mains 2020?

One of the most awaited and promising national examinations for the candidates who are interested in becoming engineers and architect in their professional career is the JEE Main 2020. The registration for the exams had begun on the 2nd September of 2019 and the examination is going to be held in the month of January 2020. JEE Main is known as one of the toughest engineering entrance examinations in India as it is held in two stages. The first stage is known as the JEE Main and the second stage where the selected candidates who cleared the JEE Main cut-off qualify for the JEE Advanced, which is held for the students who want to enter the prestigious IIT and NIT. The IIT and the NIT are one of the best institutes for engineering renowned all over the world.

The JEE Main cut-off is very important as it will determine whether you would be able to advance to the next stage of JEE Advanced or not.  One will see that many students will clear the exam after the JEE Main 2020 score are declared. But everyone who clears the cut-off will not qualify for the JEE Advanced which is the next stage of aspiring candidates to take admissions in IIT and NIT. In this article, we are going to discuss exactly how much marks will be required to clear the JEE Mains 2020 so that you will be eligible to appear in the JEE Advanced examinations. The candidates have to acquire the minimum rank possible in the JEE Main 2020 in order to acquire admission in the best engineering institutes under the examination. The counseling process is long and the JoSAA authorities release a new admission cut-off after the completion of every round of counseling in order to accommodate all the participating institutions with the required number of candidates. Therefore the more marks the candidate acquires than the minimum JEE Main cut off, the higher are their chances of acquiring admissions in the choice of their institution.

JEE Main Score important for clearing cut-off

Since the year 2019, the NTA (National Testing Agency) is the authoritarian body which is responsible for conducting the JEE Main 2020. There are students from all categories like that of the EWS (Economically Weaker Sections), SC, ST, General and PWD which is inclusive in all the above categories and have a separate cut-off. We would mainly discuss the chances of the general candidates in this article but the other categories will also be mentioned. The cut-off is the marks which is declared by the NTA after the conduction of the JEE Main 2020 exam and after they have evaluated the paper 1and 2 in the JEE Main examination. This cut-off will determine the students who have passed the examination as well as the candidates who have cleared the JEE Main score 2020 to appear in the JEE Advanced examinations. The students who have not cleared the cut-off would not be allowed to sit for the counseling. Therefore the JEE Main 2020 score is important for every student as it will determine whether they would be allowed to give JEE Advanced or attend counseling for admission to national engineering colleges.

JEE Main 2020 cut off calculation

There are a number of factors on which the JEE Main cut-off depends, these factors can be predicted and used for calculations in order to predict the right cut-off for the JEE Main 2020 examination:

  • A lot of students register for the JEE Main 2020 examination, but not all among them attend the actual examination. Therefore the total number of students who attended the JEE Main 2020 examination is one important factor.
  • The level of difficulty of the examination is another important factor.
  • The total number of questions asked in the examination is also another important factor.
  • Lastly, the capability and the performance level of the candidates who attended the JEE Main examination also is a factor responsible for the JEE Main cut-off.
  • The trend of JEE Main cut-off in the previous years.
  • The number of candidates who have applied for different courses in engineering colleges.

The predicted cut-off marks for JEE Main 2020

The following table is a prediction of the JEE Main cut-off which has been done by various professional coaching institutes taking under consideration the above factors so as to determine the right marks which each of the categories of the students has to obtain to clear the JEE Main 2020 examinations, is given below:

Categories  Minimum Cut-off marks
General 80-85
EWS 75-80
OBC 48-53
SC 31-36
ST 27-32

After the release of the JEE Main score and the JEE Advanced examination, the final AIR (All India Rank) of all the students are declared. Through this rank, it is considered that only the top 5000 students have the chance to get admission in IIT’s and the top 15000 students have the chance to get into NIT’s. The rest of the students have many GFTI (Government Funded Technical Institutes) and Private institutes to take admission which is also very good institutes. The counseling is done on the basis of the AIR which is released in the month of May and after several rounds of counseling, all the students who scored the minimum marks in the JEE Main 2020 would get admission in one or either engineering institute registered under the JEE examinations.
